Ignite IGL Foundation Reaffirms Commitment To Princess Margaret Hospital
Appreciation to Bevon Francis, Board Chairman, IGL Limited at the handing over ceremony of medical
equipment to the Pediatric Ward by Ignite IGL Foundation. The much-needed equipment donated by
Ignite IGL Foundation, worth over J$500,000, includes two S7 Plus Syringe pumps and a Phototherapy
lamp; plus insect screening material for the windows of the Paediatric Ward.
Gratitude and appreciation filled the room last Thursday, May 10 as representatives from Ignite IGL Foundation handed over equipment to the Pediatric Ward of Princess Margaret Hospital.
The donation of the much-needed equipment, plus material for screening the windows of the Paediatric Ward, is worth over J$500,000, and comes as Jamaica is commemorating Child Month. The donation is part of Ignite IGL Foundation’s commitment to the Pediatric Ward, which was officially adopted by IGL Limited in 2016.
“As the leading supplier of medical gases in Jamaica, we want to play our part in improving the health sector, and in this case the facilities at the Paediatric Ward at Princess Margaret Hospital,” said Bevon Francis, Board Chairman, IGL Limited. “This investment will go a far way in ensuring that the medical facilities which treat our children are on par with the best in the world.”
The equipment donated by Ignite IGL Foundation include two S7 Plus Syringe Pumps and a Phototherapy Lamp, critical equipment needed for the Paediatric Ward, which currently has only one of each. The S7 Plus Syringe Pumps are a type of infusion pump developed to administer drugs in a controlled manner and they will be used to administer specific amounts of fluids, medication and blood products. The Phototherapy Lamp is used for the treatment of high bilirubin levels that cause jaundice in newborns.

Dionne Betty, CEO, Princess Margaret Hospital said the equipment will provide a significant boost to the delivery of treatment. “We are grateful as ever to IGL Limited and the Ignite IGL Foundation for this donation to our children’s ward. I am sure it will have a positive impact on the quality of care we provide to our paediatric patients,” said Betty. “We will now be able to provide timely and efficient treatment of neonatal jaundice and the accurate delivery of prescribed amounts of fluids, medication and blood products to the patients, thereby ensuring proper patient management,” she said.
IGL Limited through Ignite IGL Foundation has been a key partner of Princess Margaret Hospital, with their association going back to 2015, when the Foundation spearheaded a J$1.2 million renovation of the Pediatric Ward. The work included interior painting; refurbishing beds, bedside tables, the nurses’ station and play area; installation of ceiling fans and storage cupboards, as well as painting a mural.
In May 2016 Ignite IGL Foundation formally adopted the Pediatric Ward of the Hospital and since pledged annual assistance.

Princess Margaret Hospital caters to over 40,000 patients annually, who travel from St. Thomas, Eastern Portland and Eastern St. Andrew.
