Waite Makes Winning Debut As Jamaica Head Coach
Rampant Reggae Boyz find rhythm in St. Kitts
Jerome Waite kicked off his brief stint as interim head coach with a classy 3-1 victory for Jamaica over hosts St. Kitts & Nevis on Thursday evening.
Waite, standing in for back-to-back friendlies for Theodore Whitmore following his controversial resignation and reinstallment, relied on only local-based players to tackle St. Kitts & Nevis.
The Reggae Boyz were in charge from start to finish, although lacked finishing skills during a dull second half at the Warner Park Football Stadium in Basseterre, and were gifted the opener thanks to an own goal.
Justin Springer clumsily netted past his own keeper on 22 minutes for Jamaica’s long overdue breakthrough.
The dangerous looking Boyz seized their chance with the lead and soon took total control with Fabian Reid doubling the lead within 100 seconds of their opener.
And the Boyz had hit cruise control by half-time with Cavalier’s Chevone Marsh having added to their tally on 36 minutes.
After the turnaround the hosts upped their game with Kennedy Isles besting UWI showstopper Amal Knight nine minutes into a second-half, which primarily became a physical midfield battle.
Next up for Waite is Saturday’s friendly against Antigua & Barbuda, which will be a stiffer test although it offers the fringe squad members a chance to impress and become a part of Whitmore’s plans.
