Jamaican Artiste Sues Miley Cyrus For US$300 Million Over ‘We Can’t Stop’
Jamaican dancehall artiste Flourgon has sued Miley Cyrus for her 2013 song “We Can’t Stop.”
In the lawsuit, which was filed earlier this week in New York City, the entertainer claims Miley’s 2013 mega-hit borrows heavily from his tune, “We Run Things.”
Interestingly, according to TMZ, Flourgon isn’t claiming Miley stole his music, or even a single line from his song.
Instead, he says she jacked his “unique and creative lyrical phraseology in order to establish an overarching and pervasive theme … in the realm of self-discovery and self-governings.”
In Miley’s song are the lyrics: “We run things, things don’t run we.” And Flourgon’s song includes practically the same line, “We run things, things no run we.”
The lawsuit is seeking US$300 million in damages.
We Run Things” was released in 1988.
