New Coach for the Reggae Boyz
The remainder of Jamaica’s 2014 World Cup qualifying bid has been placed in the hands of a German, Winfried Schafer.
The 63 year old who led Cameroon to the African Cup of Nations title in 2002 was unveiled by President of the Jamaica Football Federation, Captain Horace Burrell as the man who will take over as head coach of the national senior team from Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore.
Schafer who led German club Karlsrhue to the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup in the 1993/94 season will have Vin Blaine as his assistant.
The former Bundesliga coach will have Traffic Sports of Brazil paying a portion of his salary, which Captain Burrell reveals will not be a burden to Jamaica
He will be heading off to the USA shortly to watch Panama and Honduras in the CONCACAF Gold Cup as both are scheduled to meet Jamaica in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Schafer’s contract goes up to the end of November.
