BREAKING: Jamaican High Jumper Germaine Mason Dies in Motorcycle Crash

Jamaican high jump record holder Germaine Mason is dead.

The 34-year-old reportedly crashed along the Port Royal main road in Kingston this morning (April 20).

The Jamaican Constabulary Force confirmed Mason’s death via Twitter.

Mason set a Jamaican record of 2.34 metres to win the Pan American Games gold in 2003.

  

He won silver and bronze medals at the World Junior Championships in 2000 and 2002 respectively, the latter event held in his hometown of Kingston.

Mason, in 2006, switched allegiance to Great Britain and went on to win silver in the high jump at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

The former Wolmer’s student, in 2004, cleared 2.25 metres to win bronze at the 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships.
