TRANSFORMATIONAL SPEAKER
Winner of the Prime Minister’s National Youth Award for Excellence
Juleus Ghunta is a transformational speaker, dreamrighter and poet. He was born in Hanover, Jamaica and was educated at the University of the West Indies, Mona, graduating in 2010 with a degree in Media and Communications and History.
He is the creator of the D.R.E.A.M.R.I.G.H.T acrostic. Ghunta first thought of dreamright – his signature idea – when he was 12-years old. Ghunta had many turbulent childhood experiences. At age 14 he moved into his 10th home. He has ascended from the trenches of self-hatred, diffidence and fear with a powerful message of resilience and hope.
Ghunta’s soul-stirring and energetic presentations inspire audiences to think critically and to rid themselves of beliefs and norms that are counterproductive and dehumanizing. He has delivered moving presentations at numerous organisations in Jamaica, across the Caribbean and in Africa.
Ghunta is or was a member of the Governor General’s “I Believe” Initiative (IBI) ambassador programme; CariMentors Regional Youth Peacebuilding Network; co-founder/coordinator of Youngmentour youth-empowerment-group (Grenada) and founder of The Protagonist newsletter. In 2010 he was one of 38 young leaders selected from 28 Commonwealth states for the Commonwealth Youth Leadership Training Programme which was held in Kigali, Rwanda.
In 2013 Ghunta received the Prime Minister’s National Youth Award for Excellence for his work as a youth advocate. Ghunta’s poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Bim: Arts for the 21st Century (Barbados), Bookends (Sunday Observer) and Poetry Pacific (Canada
