JPS Seeks Electricity Rate Increase
The Jamaica Public Service Company, JPS is currently seeking permission to increase its current electricity rates.
According to the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR), JPS has submitted an application for an extraordinary rate review.
The OUR received the application for the rate increase last month.
The JPS, in its submission, contends that he Electricity Licence of 2016 incorporates several changes which affect the calculation of its non-fuel rates.
The power company also says if its proposal is accepted, recovering these costs would result in an increase of approximately 1 percent on the average residential customer bill.
If given the green light, electricity bills for small commercial customers are expected to increase by approximately 1.1 percent and approximately 0.8 percent for large and industrial customers.
