Jamaica’s Most Recent Single Quarter Economic Growth Strongest in 14 Years
Positive Signs For Jamaica’s Economy
Minister of Finance – Audley Shaw recently disclosed that Jamaica’s economy grew by 2.3 percent during July – September, representing the highest single quarter growth since 2002.
He made the disclosure while speaking to the House of Representatives on Tuesday (November 1).
The minister also stated: “We are well on our way to five in four,” alluding to the Government’s intention to achieve five per cent gross domestic growth by the 2020-2021 fiscal year.
The economy grew by 1.1 percent during the quarter spanning April to June quarter according to the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ).
The institute estimated that real GDP growth for this fiscal year would be between one and two per cent, however that growth projection is likely to be revised following the impressive growth during July to- September.
