MoBay Man Who Had Massive Tumour to Be Discharged From Hospital Soon
Jermaine Barrett, a 26-year-old Montego Bay resident who was tormented by a massive growth on his face is now reportedly in high spirits following major surgery to remove the tumor.
Doctors at Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, Jamaica determined the tumour to be Chondrosarcoma – a cancer composed of cells derived from transformed cells that produce cartilage.
In April of this year, an online was was created for Jermaine with the aim of amassing the funds required to pay for his surgery.
According to Shena Carty of Jamaican Madhouse, the group that was instrumental in raising funds for Barrett to finance the multi-million-dollar operation, Barrett is now getting ready to be discharged from hospital.
In social media post over the weekend she stated Barrett, after undergoing major surgery to remove the tumour, has had “minor touch ups” with plastic surgeons and ear, nose and throat specialists.
“His plastic surgery keeps reopening and they can’t seem to get it to stay closed and heal properly. The plan is to discharge him and have it dressed twice a day until it heals,” Carty said, emphasizing that “That’s the worst of it.”
She happily added: “The best of it is, the trache is gone! He speaks! He eats regular foods. I brought him jack-fruit, water melon and curried goat and plantains with rice and he was in heaven. He said, ‘this is the happiest day of my life’.”
