VCB Finishes Second in Women’s 100m at Monaco Diamond League

Jamaica’s seven time Olympic medallist Veronica Campbell-Brown had to settle for a second place finish after being bested by the electric Dutch athlete Dafne Schippers in Friday’s Diamond League meet in Monaco.

The meeting commenced one day after a horrific terrorist attack killed at least 84 people in Nice – France’s fifth most populous city.

Schippers clocked a respectable 10.94 seconds over the 100m distance while Campbell-Brown narrowly edged Carina Horn of South Africa to take second with a time of 11.12 seconds.

Horn registered 11.14 seconds while the American athlete Tianna Bartoletta, took fifth place with 11.21 seconds.

Campbell will be participating in her fifth Olympic games next month and is the second woman in history to win two consecutive Olympic 200 m events.

She is also one of only nine athletes to win world championships at the youth, junior, and senior level of an athletic event.
