Jamaicans to Spend $40m Less On Newly Formed Cabinet Annually
Prime Minister Andrew Holness recently named the members of his newly formed cabinet.
They were officially sworn in at a ceremony at Kings House on Monday.
The new cabinet is a 22-member executive comprising of 18 ministers and four junior ministers.
The previous cabinet, Portia Simpson Miller’s 28-member executive,was comprised of 20 ministers and eight junior ministers, and costed the country $195 million in salary and allowances per year before the change of Government.
This newly formed government will require Jamaicans to spend over $155 million on salaries annually.
According to the Star, while speaking at King’s House on Monday, Prime Minister Holness stated: “This is the first signal that we intend to be efficient and frugal in Government. This is a tangible difference that we are not only interested in changing government, but we are committed to changing how government works”.
