Doctor Gets National Award For Heroically Saving Man’s Life

Dr. Ricard Bennett today (October 19) received the Badge of Honour for Gallantry from Governor General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen at the 2015 National Honours and Awards Ceremony at King’s House.

In 2014 Dr. Bennett displayed tremendous courage, selflessness and medical skill to save the life of his neighbour who had a punctured lung after being stabbed.

Despite meeting in a motor vehicle accident while carrying the wounded man to the hospital, Dr. Bennett still managed to get the man to the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital, where he and his colleagues performed emergency surgery to save his life.

“My concern was just to try to keep him alive.”

“I have been working in the medical field for a while so you are not too flustered by what is going on; your training and your experience just kick in and you just do what you have to do to get the job done,” Dr. Bennett said,” said the Dr. Bennett while speaking with The Jamaica Information Service.

He also stated:

“I hope I have motivated some people or the whole Jamaica to give a helping hand when it’s necessary.”
