Jamaica Soars in FIFA Rankings After Reaching Gold Cup Final
The Reggae Boyz have been described by FIFA as this year’s surprise package following their appearance at the final of Gold Cup 2015.
Their impressive second place finish has also undoubtedly contributed to their new FIFA ranking of 55.
Mexico is now the highest place CONCACAF team, occupying position 26, climbing 14 places after winning their tenth Gold Cup.
Jamaica leaped a massive 21 places to arrive at position No. 55.
New England Football Association rules stipulate that non-European Union players must represent countries that have ranked inside FIFA’s top 50 over the last two years.
Recently Jamaican midfielder Rodolph Austin was denied a work permit because he was not a member of a national team that ranked inside the top 50.
CONCACAF teams The USA and Costa Rica are now ranked 29th and 38th respectively.
Argentina sits firmly in 1st place followed by Belgium(2nd), Germany (3rd), Colombia (4th) and Brazil which complete the top 5.
