Shaw Hat-Trick Powers Jamaica to Dominant Win in Qualifiers
Jamaica’s next assignment in the Concacaf Women’s World Cup qualifiers is already set, with Hubert Busby’s squad preparing to host Guyana at the National Stadium on Saturday as their push toward another global tournament continues.
That upcoming fixture follows a dominant showing in Kingston on Friday night, where the Reggae Girlz secured a comprehensive victory over Antigua and Barbuda to strengthen their position in Group B.
Leading the charge was Khadijah Shaw, who delivered a standout performance by netting three times, while Daniesha Blackwood added a late effort to complete the scoring.
The breakthrough came just before the interval when Shaw converted from the penalty spot after Atlanta Primus was fouled inside the area. Jamaica then pulled further ahead shortly after the restart, with Shaw extending the advantage early in the second half.
Momentum continued to build as the striker completed her hat-trick minutes later, rising to meet a delivery from Kiki Van Zanten to finish with a header during a one-sided stretch of play.
With the contest already decided, Blackwood added another goal deep into stoppage time to round off the scoring and underline Jamaica’s control throughout the encounter.
Elsewhere in the qualifiers, there were similarly lopsided results across the region. Priscila Chinchilla produced an extraordinary individual display, scoring 11 times as Costa Rica overwhelmed the Cayman Islands, while Mexico registered a convincing win over the US Virgin Islands.
The result leaves Jamaica firmly on course in their campaign as they pursue qualification for a third straight FIFA Women’s World Cup.
