Reggae Boyz Defender Signs New Deal With MLS Champions

Inter Miami CF have secured the services of Reggae Boyz defender Ian Fray for an extended period, keeping him at the MLS Cup-winning club through the 2028–29 season, with an option to prolong his stay for 2029–30.
Joining the club as a Homegrown Player in 2021, Fray endured the 2021 and 2022 campaigns sidelined due to long-term injuries, before making a return to competitive action in 2023.
Fray’s perseverance bore fruit in 2025, when he featured in 35 matches across all competitions, contributing one goal and four assists in what has been described as a standout season.
Miami’s historic MLS Cup triumph was aided significantly by Fray, who started in the 3–1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps on December 6, a match that clinched the club’s first-ever title.
Achievements with Inter Miami are not limited to this year; Fray was also part of the squads that lifted the Leagues Cup in 2023 and the Supporters’ Shield in 2024.
Across all competitions, the 23-year-old has accumulated 66 appearances for Miami, scoring four goals and providing four assists since graduating from the club’s Academy.
Expressing his excitement, Fray said, “To continue this journey here feels amazing, this club has put so much trust in me for the last 5 years I’ve been here. Going through injuries, they kept their trust in me to sign a new contract and now we’ve won the MLS Cup, so I’m excited for next year.”
He added, “Coming from the Academy, it means a lot to me, just to give more kids from here hope that they can make it to the First Team and make it through to the next level. So for me to sign another contract here, it’s exciting just to give more kids hope.”
On the international stage, Fray made his senior Reggae Boyz debut against Curacao in October.
Three appearances in total have been recorded for Jamaica by Fray, all in Concacaf Final Round Qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
