Reggae Boyz Target Greenwood Hits Four as Marseille Go Top 💥
Mason Greenwood delivered one of the standout performances of the Ligue 1 season on Saturday, scoring four times in Marseille’s emphatic 6-2 win over Le Havre — a result that sent Roberto De Zerbi’s men to the top of the French league table.
The 24-year-old forward, who now holds a Jamaican passport and remains a key target for the Reggae Boyz, made history at the Stade Vélodrome by becoming the first Marseille player to net four goals in a league match since Jean-Pierre Papin achieved the feat in 1991.
Greenwood opened his account from the penalty spot in the 34th minute after Le Havre defender Gautier Lloris was sent off for a handball in the area.
The visitors, who had earlier taken the lead through Yassine Kechta, struggled to recover after going a man down.
Marseille eventually pulled away in the second half as Greenwood added his second midway through the period, then completed his hat-trick in the 72nd minute before scoring again just four minutes later to cap a brilliant individual display.
Robinio Vaz and Amir Murillo also found the net late on for Marseille, while Abdoulaye Toure grabbed a consolation for Le Havre.
The victory marked Marseille’s fifth consecutive league win and lifted them above Paris Saint-Germain, who were held to a 3-3 draw by Strasbourg on Friday.
Greenwood’s red-hot form has been instrumental in L’OM’s rise — he has now scored nine goals in Ligue 1 this season, helping his team to six wins from their first eight matches.
With Jamaica’s World Cup qualifying campaign approaching its decisive stages, Greenwood’s performances in France will only intensify calls for him to commit to the Reggae Boyz setup after twice being called up but yet to make his debut.
If he does, Jamaica could soon have one of Europe’s most in-form forwards leading their attack.
