Michail Antonio Parts Ways with West Ham After Contract Expiry

Jamaican international Michail Antonio will be leaving West Ham United after the club confirmed his departure following the end of his contract for the 2024/25 season.

The announcement, made in an official club statement yesterday, clarified that Antonio would not be renewing his deal as a member of the first-team squad.

Serving West Ham for a full decade, the forward became a well-known figure in the team since joining in 2015.

Initially used in a variety of roles including right-back, Antonio eventually cemented his position as the club’s main striker due to his consistent performances in attack.

Among his individual honours, Antonio was named West Ham’s Player of the Year for the 2016–17 season and twice received the Premier League Player of the Month award.

The 2022–23 UEFA Europa Conference League victory featured Antonio as one of the standout performers, earning him a spot in the tournament’s team of the season.

His contributions in the Premier League include 68 goals, the most by any player in West Ham’s top-flight history, while his total of 83 places him sixth in the club’s all-time scoring list.

Despite being involved in a serious car crash in December last year, Antonio recently made a recovery and remains connected to the club during his rehabilitation process.

West Ham stated they will continue providing him with access to medical support, training grounds, and facilities as part of that recovery.

Discussions are ongoing between Antonio and the club about a potential new role that would allow him to guide and support other players using the insight gained over his ten-year spell.
