Reggae Boy Amari’i Bell Signs Two-Year Deal with Charlton Athletic

Jamaican international Amari’i Bell has signed a two-year contract with Charlton Athletic, marking a new chapter in his career following his departure from Luton Town.

The 31-year-old defender joins the newly promoted Championship side on a free transfer and is reunited with manager Nathan Jones, under whom he previously flourished during a successful spell at Luton.

“It’s a fresh start for me and one that I’m looking forward to as Charlton are on the way back up,” Bell told the club’s website.

“It’s another chance to work with Nathan, who is a great manager and knows how to get the best out of his players, and he certainly does for me. It’s going to be a great time.”

Bell, who joined Luton Town in 2021, played a crucial role in their promotion to the Premier League in 2023.

He went on to make 21 appearances in the top flight and remained a regular in the squad following their return to the Championship. However, the club suffered relegation to League One last season.

The experienced defender, who has earned 28 caps for Jamaica, recently scored against Panama in the Concacaf Gold Cup, reinforcing his value to the Reggae Boyz.

His blend of international and top-tier club experience is expected to strengthen Charlton Athletic’s defensive unit.

Charlton manager Nathan Jones, who previously worked with Bell at Luton, welcomed the reunion.

“Amari’i’s someone I know well. I signed him at Luton, and he did fantastically well for me. He knows how I want to play, he has Championship and Premier League experience, and he’s a wonderful athlete with pace and power. He will add to the group, and we’re really delighted because left-sided centre-halves are very difficult to come by,” Jones said.

Bell joins fellow Jamaican internationals Kaheim Dixon, Karoy Anderson, and Tyreece Campbell at The Valley as Charlton gear up for life back in the Championship.
