Over 40% Reduction in Murders Reported So Far This Year
A total of 394 homicides were recorded in Jamaica up to Saturday, July 26, marking a significant reduction compared to last year.
Data from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) show that this figure represents 283 fewer murders than the 677 reported during the corresponding period in 2023.
Leading the national tally is the St. Andrew South Police Division, which accounted for the highest number of murders at 50.
In second place, the St. Catherine South Division recorded 35 killings.
Meanwhile, Trelawny had the lowest murder count across all police divisions, with just 7 homicides reported.
Portland followed closely behind, with 8 murders recorded since the start of the year.
Alongside the decline in murders, incidents of rape have also decreased, with 61 fewer cases reported when compared to the same time last year.
In contrast, robberies have seen an increase, rising by 47 cases.
Break-ins have also surged, with 119 more reports than the previous year.
