BREAKING: Greenwood Finalises Switch to Represent Jamaica

Mason Greenwood

Mason Greenwood has reportedly completed the process to change his international allegiance to Jamaica and is now waiting to receive his Jamaican passport.

This marks a significant step nearly a year after it was first revealed that the former Manchester United forward had submitted a request to FIFA to represent the Caribbean nation instead of England.

The process faced delays due to the absence of a specific document requested by Jamaica’s Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA).

The document, needed from Greenwood’s mother—who was born in Britain and through whom he qualifies—was finally provided, allowing the application to move forward.

Greenwood also has Jamaican roots through his grandfather.

The 23-year-old, currently playing for Marseille in France’s Ligue 1, has made only one senior competitive appearance for England. His switch to Jamaica ends months of uncertainty surrounding whether he would follow through with the move.

The Jamaica Football Federation is hopeful Greenwood will be eligible for selection in time for the start of the final round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers in September.

Jamaica will compete in Group B alongside Trinidad and Tobago, Curaçao, and Bermuda.

Their September fixtures include an away match against Bermuda and a home clash with Trinidad and Tobago.
