Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz to Face England in Historic Friendly at King Power Stadium

England will host Jamaica in a landmark women’s international football friendly on June 29 at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium.

This historic clash marks the first time the two nations will face off on the pitch, with the encounter serving as England’s final preparation before heading to Switzerland for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.

Fresh from their impressive run at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Jamaica will be aiming to build on the momentum that saw them reach the knockout stages for the first time and eliminate Brazil along the way.

England, currently ranked among the elite in women’s football and reigning European champions, are using the fixture to refine their squad ahead of their title defence.

Led by Sarina Wiegman, the Lionesses recently split a pair of matches against Belgium in the Nations League, winning the first leg 5-0 before falling 3-2 in the second.

Reflecting on the upcoming friendly, Wiegman described it as a valuable test and an exciting opportunity to face a new opponent on home soil.

“Jamaica are continuing to grow as a team and showed their quality at the last World Cup,” she said, adding that the match promises a memorable atmosphere at a venue where England have enjoyed past success.

In their most recent outings, the Reggae Girlz secured two victories over Peru in February but were unable to replicate that form in April, falling twice to regional foes Mexico.
