Greenwood Nears International Switch to Jamaica

Mason Greenwood is set to switch his international allegiance to Jamaica after formally requesting a change of sporting nationality.

The 23-year-old, who previously played for England’s senior team, could soon make his debut for the Reggae Boyz in upcoming competitions, including the Concacaf Gold Cup and World Cup qualifiers.

Greenwood’s lone appearance for England came in a friendly match in 2020, which means he meets FIFA’s eligibility criteria to switch federations.

FIFA regulations permit players to change national teams if they have played no more than three official matches before turning 21.

With Greenwood meeting these conditions and not being called up since, he is now in line to represent Jamaica, the country of his parents’ origin.

If FIFA grants approval, Greenwood could join Jamaica’s squad under head coach Steve McClaren as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

His potential inclusion would be a significant addition to the Reggae Boyz, who have recently strengthened their squad with England-born players of Jamaican heritage, including Michail Antonio and Leon Bailey.

The move would be permanent, preventing Greenwood from representing England again.

However, his arrival could provide a major boost for Jamaica as they aim to enhance their attacking options ahead of crucial international fixtures.
