Shaw Receives Club Support Following Online Abuse

Jamaica international Khadija “Bunny” Shaw has received full backing from Manchester City after being subjected to racist and misogynistic abuse following the team’s 4-3 Women’s Super League defeat to Arsenal.

Manchester City stated they were “appalled” upon learning of the abuse directed at their striker and confirmed that the matter has been shared with the relevant authorities. An investigation is set to follow.

Shaw, 28, opted not to publicly share the messages to avoid giving attention to those responsible.

“Discrimination of any kind, either in stadiums or online, will not be tolerated and has absolutely no place inside or outside the game,” the club said in a statement.

“An investigation will follow, and the club offers our full support to Bunny following the disgusting treatment she’s received.”

The Reggae Girl made her 100th appearance for City in Sunday’s match, coming on as a substitute.

She has been a standout performer for the club, scoring 86 goals and winning Manchester City’s Player of the Year award in each of the last two seasons.
