Jamaica’s Olympic silver medalist Kishane Thompson is set to make his highly anticipated indoor debut at the Astana Indoor Meet in Kazakhstan on January 25.

The reigning national champion will compete in the men’s 60m event, where he is slated to face a strong field, including Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse.

De Grasse, according to World Athletics, recorded a time of 6.66 seconds in the same event at last year’s meet, finishing in sixth place.

Thompson last showcased his sprinting prowess at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he secured a silver medal in the men’s 100m final with a remarkable time of 9.79 seconds, just behind American Noah Lyles.

The women’s 60m event will feature an exciting lineup, including Olympic finalist Tia Clayton, her twin sister Tina Clayton, Jamaican compatriot Natasha Morrison, and Bahamian sprinter Anthonique Strachan.

In the women’s 400m, Jamaica’s Janieve Russell will go head-to-head with Barbadian star Sada Williams in what promises to be a thrilling showdown.

The Astana Indoor Meet marks the first Gold-level meeting on the World Athletics Indoor Tour for 2025, as athletes gear up for the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, scheduled for March 21-23.
