Carty Now Among Fastest West Indians to Reach 1000 ODI Runs

The West Indies capped off a dominant series against Bangladesh with a 3-0 victory, marking their first ODI series win over the visitors since 2014.

The third and final match, held at Warner Park in St. Kitts, was memorable for several milestones, including a standout performance by Keacy Carty.

Carty, 27, became the joint fifth-fastest West Indian to reach 1000 ODI runs, achieving the milestone during an impressive knock of 95 off 88 balls.

His innings included 10 fours and two sixes, bringing his total tally to exactly 1000 runs in just 28 innings. This feat places him alongside Shimron Hetmyer, who reached the same mark in 2019, and behind only Nicholas Pooran (27 innings), Ramnaresh Sarwan (27), Gordon Greenidge (23), and Sir Viv Richards (21).

The St. Maarten-born batter now boasts an average of 43.47 in 31 ODIs, with five half-centuries and one century to his name.

His highest score, a match-winning 128* against England in Barbados last month, further solidified his reputation as a key player in the West Indies lineup.

The match also saw Amir Jangoo etch his name into history books, becoming only the second West Indian to score a hundred on ODI debut with his unbeaten 104.

The hosts’ comprehensive series sweep signals a resurgence in their ODI form ahead of upcoming challenges.

Carty has also earned a maiden call-up to the West Indies T20I squad for the forthcoming series against Bangladesh, which begins on Sunday at Arnos Vale. Fans will be eager to see if his stellar form continues in the shortest format.
