Bob Marley Biopic “One Love” Nominated for BET Award for Best Movie

Yesterday, Black Entertainment Television (BET) announced the nominees for its 2024 awards, with “Bob Marley: One Love” securing a spot in the prestigious Best Movie category.

The film faces stiff competition from a diverse lineup that includes “American Fiction,” “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé,” “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “The Book of Clarence,” “The Color Purple,” “The Equalizer 3,” and “The Little Mermaid.”

Released on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2024, “One Love” grossed an impressive $51 million during its opening weekend.

The film provides an intimate look at the life of the legendary reggae musician Bob Marley, focusing on the period when he and his band, Bob Marley and the Wailers, recorded the iconic 1977 album “Exodus” and performed at the historic One Love Concert.

  

Kingsley Ben-Adir delivers a compelling performance as Bob Marley, with Lashawna Lynch starring alongside him as Rita Marley.

The 24th BET Awards, set to celebrate achievements in entertainment, sports, television, and movies, will take place on June 30, 2024, at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

Canadian rapper Drake leads the nominations with seven nods.

The nomination of “Bob Marley: One Love” highlights the film’s impact and its celebration of Marley’s enduring legacy.
