Andre Blake Signs Multi-Year Extension with Philadelphia Union
Reggae Boyz goalkeeper Andre Blake has inked a new multi-year contract with Major League Soccer (MLS) club Philadelphia Union.
The club made the announcement on Thursday.
Blake’s current contract was set to expire at the end of 2024, but the new agreement guarantees his stay through 2026, with a club option for 2027.
Blake, 33, has been a pivotal figure for the Union since joining in 2014 as the first overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft, the first goalkeeper to achieve this distinction.
He has significantly contributed to the club’s success, setting numerous records and achieving personal accolades.
Notably, Blake is the only three-time MLS Goalkeeper of the Year and has been named to the MLS All-Star squad four times.
Union Sporting Director Ernst Tanner praised Blake’s contributions, stating, “Since joining the team, Andre has been a foundational piece to the club’s achievements.
He has shown himself to be one of the best goalkeepers in North America and has taken on a leadership role both on and off the field.”
Blake set a club record for most MLS appearances on August 26, 2023, with 222 appearances.
In 2022, he led the league with 15 shutouts, and the Union conceded the fewest goals ever in a 34-game MLS season to reach their first MLS Cup final.
Additionally, he led the Union to their first Supporters’ Shield victory in 2020.
Internationally, Blake has earned 75 caps for the Jamaican national team, recording 26 clean sheets. His exceptional performance continues to be a cornerstone for both his club and country.
