Bob Marley Biopic ‘One Love’ Hits High Notes at the Box Office

The Bob Marley One Love movie is making waves at the Box Office.

According to early estimates from The Hollywood Reporter, the Paramount biopic featuring Kingsley Ben-Adir as the late reggae legend made an impressive domestic debut, pulling in $46.2 million over six days, with $28.3 million earned during the traditional three-day weekend period.

This robust opening puts it in league with other successful musical biopics like Rocketman, which chronicled the life of Elton John.

Released on Valentine’s Day, One Love has garnered an impressive A rating on CinemaScore, indicating strong audience satisfaction.

Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, the film has benefited from its diverse viewership, pulling in a record $14 million from 3,536 theaters on Valentine’s Day, making it the highest midweek opener ever for the romantic holiday, according to the studio’s reports.

The movie continued its strong performance with an additional $3.9 million on Thursday, bringing its two-day domestic total to $17.9 million.

In contrast, Sony’s Madame Web, starring Dakota Johnson, is projecting a six-day opening of $24 million, which is relatively low for a movie associated with a Marvel character, though it’s worth noting that the film is not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

One Love delves into the intricate dynamics among Marley, his band The Wailers, and his family in the aftermath of an assassination attempt on his life.
