Head Coach of Jamaica’s National Senior Men’s Team, Heimir Hallgrimsson, has expressed his willingness to consider the inclusion of controversial forward Mason Greenwood in the squad, despite the player’s history of legal issues.

Greenwood, 22, who currently plays for La Liga Club Getafe on loan from Manchester United, has been involved in a series of legal troubles, including allegations of attempted rape and abuse.

However, these charges were dropped in February 2023.

When questioned by the Jamaica Observer regarding his stance on Greenwood potentially joining the national team, Coach Hallgrimsson stated that he would have no reservations about including the talented forward.

Hallgrimsson emphasised that, like coaches worldwide, he seeks to bring the best talent to his team.

“I’m not different from all coaches in the world; we would like to have the best talent on our team. If he gets his former fitness and former levels, for sure he would have that level to help Jamaica,” said Hallgrimsson.

The prospect of Greenwood joining the Reggae Boyz is sure to generate significant debate among fans and the broader football community.

While Coach Hallgrimsson seems open to the idea, the final decision regarding Greenwood’s inclusion in the squad will likely depend on various factors, including his performance and behaviour both on and off the field.

The Jamaican Blogs will continue to keep a close watch on the potential addition of Mason Greenwood to the squad, as it could mark a significant turning point in his career and offer the Reggae Boyz a valuable asset on the pitch.
