Jamaica’s Shanieka Ricketts Claims Triple Jump Victory in Finland!

Jamaica’s Shanieka Ricketts emerged victorious at the Paavo Nurmi Games, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting held in Turku, Finland on Tuesday.

Two-time World Championship silver medallist secured her win in the fifth round with a leap of 14.20m (0.7m/s), showcasing her excellent hop, skip, and jump skills.

Her performance surpassed that of Turkey’s Tugba Danismaz (14.03m) and Slovenia’s Neja Filipic (13.83m), who finished second and third, respectively.

However, Ricketts’ compatriot Kimberly Williams could only manage a ninth-place finish, recording an effort of 13.38m.

Reflecting on her performance, Ricketts acknowledged that her series of jumps wasn’t the best but expressed gratitude for clinching the victory.

In another event, Jamaican athlete Shiann Salmon participated in the women’s 400m hurdles but finished in seventh place with a time of 55.81 seconds.

The event was won by Britain’s Jessie Knight, who clocked an impressive time of 54.32 seconds, meeting the qualifying standard for the upcoming World Athletics Championships.

Knight highlighted her satisfaction with the race, crediting her new stride pattern of using 14 strides to hurdle five for the first time.

She mentioned that it had been a challenging season so far but felt relieved and motivated by her performance, intending to engage in a two-week training block before competing in Ostrava.

Finishing closely behind Knight, Australia’s Sarah Carli achieved a personal best time of 54.66 seconds, securing the second position. Finland’s Viivi Lehikoinen claimed third place with a time of 54.88 seconds.

The competition showcased the talent and perseverance of these athletes, with Ricketts celebrating her triple jump victory and Knight successfully attaining the qualifying time for the World Athletics Championships, leaving her motivated for future competitions.
