Alana Reid of Jamaica Beats Adaejah Hodge in Maryland with Record-Breaking Run!
On Saturday, Alana Reid – Jamaica’s national junior record holder from Hydel High, won the Girls’ 100m final at the Puma East Coast International Showcase in Maryland, USA with a meet-record time of 11.01 seconds.
Reid’s victory was expected, as she had a remarkable season that included a gold medal at the ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships, where she set the national junior record with a time of 10.92.
Adaejah Hodge of Montverde Academy, a United States-based British Virgin Island sprinter, finished second with a time of 11.16, while Avery Lewis of Friends’ Central came in third with a time of 11.41. Alliah Baker, also from Hydel High, finished fourth with a time of 11.47 seconds. Reid and Hodge were expected to compete against each other at the Carifta Games, but Hodge withdrew due to injury.
In the men’s event, Nyckoles Harbour of the United States won in 10.28 seconds, followed by Brody Buffington with a time of 10.29. Adrian Kerr of Kingston College finished third with a time of 10.40 seconds. The Boys’ 110m hurdles was won by Daniel Wright of Excelsior High with a time of 13.87 seconds.
Myla Greene from Bullis School won the Girls’ 100m hurdles with a time of 13.28, followed by Kiara Meikle of Holmwood Technical with a time of 13.36, and Kennedy Flynn from Bullis School with a time of 13.56. Madison Whyte of Heritage won the Girls’ 400m with a time of 52.49, beating Holmwood Technical’s Rickiann Russell, who finished second with a time of 52.54.
Quincy Wilson, a freshman from Bullis School, won the Boys’ 400m in 46.11 seconds, while Jasauna Dennis of STETHS finished second with a time of 47.01 seconds. Michelle Smith from Montverde Academy and the US Virgin Islands won the Girls’ 400m hurdles with a meet-record time of 58.34 seconds.
Cedricka Williams from Holmwood Technical dominated the discus throw with a winning distance of 53.60m, followed by Andrea Countiss of Gar-Field with a throw of 33.10m, and Aleah Schwartz from Bullis School with a distance of 32.76m. Other winners included Tyrece Hyman from Edwin Allen, who won the Boys’ 400m hurdles, Danielle King from Hydel High, who won the Girls’ 800m, and Barrain Smith from STETHS, who won the Boys’ 800m.
