Elaine Thompson-Herah Clocks World Leading Time To Win 100m Event At Rome Diamond League

Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah was in top form on Thursday (Sep 17) when she clocked the fastest time of the year in the women’s 100m event at the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea IAAF Diamond League athletics meet in Rome.

The Olympic 100m and 200m champion crossed the finish line in 10.85 seconds.

Her time is marginally better than the 10.86 her compatriot and fellow Olympic gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce managed to clock this year.

Thompson-Herah is undoubtedly delighted with the result after three years marred by injury. She crossed the finish line nearly three metres clear of runner-up Aleia Hobbs (11.12) and Marie-Josee Ta Lou (11.14).

South Africa’s Akani Simbine was also a cut above the rest in the men’s 100mclocking 9.96, while Jamaican Julian Forte finished seventh in 10.15 seconds.
