Schools Face Potential Lockdown Amid Growing Coronavirus Fears
Prime Minister Andrew Holness recently hinted at the possibility of schools being closed to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus which has already claimed thousands of lives globally.
In a social media post today, PM Holness said a protocol for school closure has already been approved and is currently being reviewed for implementation as necessary.
The prime minister is also urging parents to make provisions for the care of their children in the event of school closures.
As there is no official treatment for coronavirus disease (COVID-19), governments in countries across the globe have already began quarantining large portions of their populations in a bid to curtail the virus’s spread.
Prime Minister Holness has also announced that no permits for gatherings that require them will be granted over the next 14 days.
Permits for gatherings scheduled to be held during this time period will also be revoked.
There have been more than 130,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally and over 4700 persons have died as a result of the disease.
