Jamaica Confirms First Coronavirus Case
Earlier today, Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Christopher Tufton announced that someone in Jamaica has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The patient is a young woman who travelled to the island from the United Kingdom on March 4.
She attended a funeral and later presented symptoms before being placed in isolation.
Minister Tufton said: “Based on the patient’s travel history and symptoms, health professionals suspected COVID-19,”
He added:
“A clinical sample was collected and sent to the National Influenza Centre, where laboratory tests confirmed the diagnosis today at approximately 11 am.”
Travel restrictions have now been broadened to include three more countries.
Minister Tufton says France, Spain and Germany now join Italy, Singapore, Iran and South Korea as countries under a travel ban due to the coronavirus.
