2020 Tokyo Olympics To Be Postponed Says IOC Member
On Monday IOC member Dick Pound said that the games were likely to be pushed to 2021, according to USA Today.
“On the basis of the information the IOC has, postponement has been decided,” Pound said, while speaking with USA Today.
“The parameters going forward have not been determined, but the Games are not going to start on July 24, that much I know.”
“It will come in stages,” said Pound, 78, the longest-serving IOC member. “We will postpone this and begin to deal with all the ramifications of moving this, which are immense.”
Pound said he expects the IOC to announce its next steps soon.
As of March 23, 2020, at least 373,000 persons globally have been afflicted with coronavirus disease and at least 16,300 persons have died.
So far there has been one COVID-19 related death in Jamaica.
