Jamaica Wannabe Morrison Reunites With Pogba
Crucial minutes for midfielder keen to make international debut
Ravel Morrison, who last year pledged his allegiance to representing Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz, was reunited with Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba last week.
The 26-year-old attacking midfielder, who last month signed a one-year deal with Premier League (PL) newcomers Sheffield United, was a team-mate with Pogba at the Manchester United Academy.
Morrison posted an Instagram image sat alongside France’s World Cup winner Pogba at Manchester United’s Carrington Complex training ground.
Morrison made the line-up in a hastily arranged closed doors friendly, but his new club fell 3-1 to their more experienced hosts.
Morrison and Pogba played alongside each other for Manchester United’s Academy in their 2011 FA Youth Cup final success over Sheffield United.
But he was soon given the boot by Manchester United and sold to West Ham United in January 2012, following controversies both on and off the pitch.
He has yet to settle at a top-tier club and become something of a journeyman with loan spells at Birmingham City, Cardiff City, Mexican outfit Club Atlas and Queens Park Rangers.
His chequered career has seen him briefly at Italian giants Lazio and Swedish top-flight side Östersunds FK.
But Morrison joined Sheffield United in the summer and made his PL debut for the Blades against Leicester City on Saturday (24 August).
He must surely be biting at the bit to get some minutes under his belt in order to get a call-up to the Jamaica squad. Head coach Theodore Whitmore has back-to-back Nations League group games against relative minnows Antigua & Barbuda and Guyana next month.
Morrison has yet to make his international debut for the Boyz. He was included in their initial 40-player pre-Gold Cup squad, but was omitted from their final 23 players who reached their third successive CONCACAF Gold Cup semi-final.
