Vehicle Smashes into Departure Lounge at Norman Manley Airport

On Sunday (December 18), a silver compact car reportedly drove into the glass near the departure area at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA).

According to the Police Communications Unit (CCU), a man and a small boy sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Police say that an 18-year-old licensed driver was transporting his physically challenged mother when he parked the car near the departure area and began to seek assistance for his mom.

Allegedly an older brother, and unlicensed driver, who was in the vehicle, attempted to move the vehicle and it ended up partially inside the ground floor departure lounge.

The older brother was taken into custody.

There were reportedly numerous screams from persons in the vicinity as they watched the moving vehicle shatter the glass enclosure.

Police units and emergency responders are said to have taken the man and boy to the hospital.
