Jamaica Soars in Competitiveness Rankings

Jamaica has soared on the most recent Global Competitiveness Index, moving from a rank of 86 to a rank 75 among 138 countries.

This is according to the annual Global Competitiveness Report 2016/17  by the World Economic Forum (Weforum).

The new rank represents Jamaica’s second best standing in a decade.

Among the most problematic factors for doing business in Jamaica according to the index are crime and theft, inefficient government bureaucracy, tax rates, and corruption.

  

The index lists Switzerland, Singapore, the United States, the Netherlands and Germany, respectively as the most competitive countries globally.

Barbados continues to be the highest ranked Caribbean nation at 72

Jamaica’s no.75 rank makes the island the second highest ranked Caribbean country.

The Dominican Republic is ranked at 92 with  Trinidad & Tobago following closely at 94.
