Mattocks Returns to Reggae Boyz Squad After Hiatus
Darren Mattock’s name has been added to the list of players to represent the island when Jamaica’s faces Group One rivals Suriname and Guyana in the Scotiabank Caribbean Cup third round next week.
The prolific striker, to the chagrin of many has not been included in several crucial encounters in recent times.
Mattocks scored Jamaica’s lone goal in the 2015 Gold Cup final against Mexico, but was not a part of the team for the Copa America games and several crucial world cup qualifying games.
Mattocks is one of 12 overseas based players named in the squad which is to assemble on Monday ahead of next Wednesday’s encounter against Suriname at the Tony Spalding Sports Complex.
The overseas based players named are: Je-Vaughn Watson, Andre Blake, Ryan Thompson, Alvas Powell, Kemar Lawrence, Shaun Francis, Damion Lowe, Omar Holness, Michael Binns, Corey Burke and Owayne Gordon.
Local players: Rosario Harriot, Ladale Ritchie, Andrew Vanzie, Allan Ottey, Dwayne Ambursley, Ewan Grandison and Dicoy Williams.
After next Wednesday’s encounter against Suriname, the Boyz will travel to face Guyana at the Leonora Stadium on October 11.
The winner of the group will advance to the Caribbean Cup finals and also qualifies for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
