Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to Receive Honourary Degree

Jamaica’s two-time Olympic 100 meters champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is one of three individuals who are slated to receive honorary degrees courtesy of The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona. 

The ‘Pocket Rocket’ as she is affectionately called won her second consecutive Olympic 100m gold medal at London 2012 and also won 100m titles at the IAAF World Championships in the years 2009, 2013 and 2015.

Currently, Fraser-Pryce is ranked as the 4th fastest female sprinter of in history, and also serves as a role model for many Jamaican youth.

In 2010, she was appointed the first National Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF Jamaica.

  

American actor, producer and humanitarian Daniel Glover, and internationally renowned Jamaican writer and poet, Lorna Goodison are the other two persons scheduled to be awarded.

Fraser-Pryce will receive the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD), while Glover and Goodison will both receive the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters (DLitt)

UWI’s  graduation ceremonies are scheduled for October 28 – 29.
