Fraser-Pryce Clocks Fastest Time in Women’s 100m Qualifiers – Rio Games
Jamaica’s two-time defending champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce last night (August 12) sent a message to her competitors with an impressive 10.96 seconds clocking to lead all qualifiers.
With the result, she has comfortably earned a spot in the semifinals of the women’s 100m at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Fraser-Pryce exploded out of the blocks in lane 9 during the fourth heat and proved to be a force to be reckoned with finishing ahead of Marie-Josee Ta Lou of Côte d’Ivoire who was second in 11.01s.
This result is her second fastest time of the year after her 10.93 clocking at the Jamaican trials in July.
Jamaica’s national champion Elaine Thompson ran 11.21s to win Heat 7 ahead of Brazilian Rosangela Santos (11.25s).
Christania Williams was second in Heat 6 in 11.27s.
Dutch silver medalist Dafne Schippers won Heat 2 in 11.16s and the American athlete Tori Bowie clocked 11.13s to win Heat 3 ahead of Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare who was second in 11.16s.
Earlier today (August 13) Stephenie -Ann McPherson won Heat 1 of the Women’s 400m to advance to the semi-final scheduled to take place on August 14 at 6:35pm (local time)and 7:35pm ET.
