American Sprinter Bashes Bolt Following His Withdrawal From Olympic Trials
Mike Rodgers, a 31-year-old American sprinter who specialises in the 100 metres has bashed Jamaica’s ace sprinter Usain Bolt for his withdrawal from the Jamaica National Senior Track and field championships last weekend.
The six-time Olympic champion opted not to compete in the final of the men’s 100 meters on Friday night, and by extension, the rest of the championship due to hamstring injury concerns and was granted a medical exemption from the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (J’AAA’s).
Rodgers believes it’s a cop out and that Bolt ought to run like everyone else.
Rodgers stated he has to withstand the toughest trials in America, where no medical exemption exists.
The American also stated :
“Until someone beats him, puts him in his place, he is going to continue to do what he wants to do.”
Prior to his withdrawal from the trials,Bolt clocked 10.04 seconds to comfortably win the first semi-final following a poor start and was set to challenge Yohan Blake in the final, who clocked 9.95 to win the other semi-final.
Justin Gatlin, another American Sprinter and one who many believe poses the biggest threat to Bolt also recently sent out a warning to Jamaica’s athletes.
Following his timely and impressive 9.80 clocking over 100 metres at the the 2016 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials on Sunday afternoon, the 34-year-old sprinter said:
“Anybody who steps to the line, I think the USA is going to be ready. We’re going to go 1-2-3 once again in Rio, we’re coming.”
