Ruthless Thieves Slay Dog to Steal 16 Goats in St Catherine

There have been numerous reports of praedial larceny across Jamaica in recent times.

Though several persons have lost their lives attempting to steal goats, cows and other livestock, the thieves appear to be unrelenting.

The most recent incident occurred in Linstead, St Catherine when thieves reportedly managed to collar a ‘bad dog’ and cut its throat before stealing 16 goats from a backyard.

According to The Star, the goats are estimated to value about $500,000 and were stolen Sunday night and Monday morning.

Fortunately for the owner of the animals, police were able to recover the goats in another section of the parish.

One farmer who called himself Maas Willie reportedly stated:

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Kevin Francis, who heads the Praedial Larceny Prevention Unit:
“Praedial larceny is no longer a situation where a man steals a pig or a goat or a cow with a view to feed his own family, it is a matter that people steal to put things to market.”
