Injury Plagued Blake Looking Forward to Rio

At the 2012 London Olympics, Jamaica’s Yohan Blake – aka “The Beast” stormed to victory in the 100 and 200m events, behind fellow Jamaican Usain Bolt.

In the previous year, he gained international prominence when he won the 100 metres gold at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu.

The ever-improving “beast” at the time almost seemed destined to one day give the world’s fastest man a run for his money over said distances.

But since his dominant performances at the London Olympics, he has been plagued by injuries that have seriously hindered his progression as a star athlete on the global stage.

However, while speaking with the popular publication – The Observer after a second place 200m run behind Warren Weir recently, Blake stated:

“It felt pretty good. I have to give God thanks I am healthy again. I felt a little bit rusty because I haven’t run for a while, but I felt really good.”

“Me and coach (Glen) Mills have been doing some really good work on the track trying to get back the form in place which is going really well. So I am just working on that.”

He added: “I have to give God thanks because the body is up there again.”

Blake’s injuries forced him to miss the Moscow World Championships in 2013 and his attempt to return the following year at the Glasgow Grand Prix, saw him pull up within 100 metres and carried from the track in a wheelchair.

Now he’s aiming to return to his days of glory when only Usain Bolt could cross a finish line before him.

Blake also stated:

“What I really want to do is replicate what I did or do better at Rio this year. So I am just focusing on that really.”

“I will take it race by race. I have some races coming up. I am not sure yet where it’s going to be, but I am working with my coach and my manager Cubie Seegobin.”
