Blake Registers World Leading 100m Time at MVP Track Meet

Yohan Blake appears to finding fine form once again just months before the commencement of the Olympic games to be held in Rio, Brazil.

Before being plagued by injuries, Blake ran the fastest non-winning time in history when he placed second to Jamaica’s Usain Bolt with a time of 19.44 seconds in the final of the 200 metres as the 2012 London Olympics.

In 2012, his impressive performances fuelled widespread speculation that he could one day dethrone Usain Bolt as the world’s fastest.

At the 2012 Cayman Invitational prior to the Jamaican Olympic trials, Blake defeated Usain Bolt over 100 metres with a time of 9.75 seconds.

He also crossed the finish line ahead of Bolt with a time of 19.80 seconds.

However the two years that followed were not pleasant for Blake as recurring hamstring injuries prevented him from qualifying for the 200m event at the 2013 Moscow World Championships. He also pulled out of the 100m event of the World Championships, for which he had an automatic entry as the defending world champion.

In 2014, his season was cut short after he suffered another hamstring injury and fell at the 40 meter mark during the Glasgow Diamond League 100 m race.

However, on Saturday night, Blake signalled his return with a world leading 9.95 (+1.4) 100 metres win at the MVP Track and field meet at the National Stadium.

America’s Justin gatlin also stopped the clock in 9.90 seconds at the Chris Brown Bahamas Invitational in Nassau but was assisted by an illegal +2.3 wind.
