Will it Be An Epic Showdown? Watch Out For Bolt, Powell, Gatlin!

On August 22 the 2015 IAAF World Championships will commence in Beijing.

Numerous events will take place such as discus throw, shot put and track events.

Though there is generally a huge amount of buzz generated globally for the championships, this year’s 100m men’s sprint has attracted an the highest level of anticipation.

The competition will begin with heats before moving on to the semi-finals, followed by the highly anticipated final race.

If heavyweights Asafa Powell, Justin Gatlin and Usain ‘Lightning’ Bolt, breeze through their qualification races (and they are expected to), this will be a final to remember.

But who would win in such a final?

Asafa Powell

Asafa Powell along with Veronica Campbell are captains for Team Jamaica in this year’s 2015 World Championship. He has held the title of World’s Fastest Man and has more 100m sub ten second times than any other professional athlete.

This will not be an easy race for Powell but he has shown very good form of late and seems to have overcome his confidence problems. Recently Powell blazed his way to victory in the Diamond League with a very respectable 9.81 s run to win gold in the 100m.

The Epic Battle Approaches
The Epic Battle Approaches?

Usain Bolt

The world’s fastest human. He is already a legend in the minds of many. At his best he is able to clock other-worldly times in both 100m and 200m sprints. Plagued by injuries in recent times, Bolt has not been at his best and has missed key track events this season.

Despite being the first man to win six Olympic gold medals in sprinting, and an eight-time World champion, Bolt will have to take this race very seriously to beat the man named below.

Bolt remains the favourite and has a knack for delivering explosive performances when they are needed most.

Justin Gatlin

His career has been somewhat tarnished after being banned two times for doping but he has not allowed negative comments about him to impact his performance on the track.

Gatlin also seems to get better with age. The 33-year-old has not lost a race since August 2013 and is currently the man to beat.

In the Diamond League at Doha, Lausanne and Monaco, Gatlin posted 100m times of 9.74, 9.75 and 9.78 seconds, respectively.

It’s worth noting that Bolt’s winning time in the last championship was 9.77 seconds.
