“I Don’t Know Why You Think Gatlin Can’t Be Beaten” Says Asafa Powell

Jamaica’s Former world 100m record holder has been in fine form recently and also seems to be in great shape mentally ahead of his long awaited clash with American athletes Tyson Gay and Justin Gatlin tomorrow in Lausanne Switzerland.

Of the six fastest 100m times this season, Powell can claim three with a best of 9.81.

The 33-year-old Gatlin who seems to be getting faster with age has registered 9.74 while Mr Gay has clocked 9.87.

While addressing journalists in Lausanne yesterday Powell was asked about his chances against Gatlin who has not been beaten in 19 100m races.

His response:

“I don’t know who you guys think he is, he is like the fifth fastest man in the world so I don’t know why you think he can’t be beaten.”

“I have been running quite well this season and running very fast so for tomorrow I expect to run fast just the same.”

“I want to surprise myself… I’m going out there to make everyone proud of me,” added Powell.
