Jamaican Terror Suspect to Be Taken to Place of Safety
The 15-year-old boy from St Mary who allegedly intended to join the Islamic group ISIS is to be housed in a place of safety.
According to Irie FM, yesterday police informed the court they found no evidence supporting the claims that he intended to join the terror group.
A magistrate on Tuesday ruled that he should be released from custody and placed in a children’s home instead of a juvenile centre in Kingston.
The boy has been away from his family and in police custody since he was held in Suriname nearly two weeks ago. He is to be taken to the St. Mary Family Court today though it is not clear for what reason.
The attorney representing the teen filed an application seeking to have him released into the custody of his father who lives in St. Mary and who cares for him.
The lawyer says the continued detention of the boy without charge is a breach of his constitutional rights.
