Infamous Muslim group leader denied entry to Jamaica
According to a report by Irie FM, The National Security Ministry says Trinidadian Muslim Leader Yasin Abu Bakr was denied entry to Jamaica in the interest of national security.
A release by the ministry released earlier today says the leader of the Jamaat Al Muslimeen in Trinidad And Tobago, Yasin Abu Bakr was on Wednesday (October 15) refused entry to Jamaica.
Abu Bakr was reportedly taken into custody by immigration officials, when he arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston Wednesday afternoon.
He arrived on a flight from Trinidad and Tobago and was refused leave to land under section 4 of the immigration restriction act.
The act states that certain commonwealth citizens, not being persons deemed to belong to the island are prohibited immigrants.
The ministry says the decision to refuse Abu Bakr leave to land in Jamaica is in the interest of national security, given the present threat posed to public safety.
The ministry adds that plans are being made to return him to Trinidad and Tobago.
The Jamaat Al Muslimeen group staged an attempted coup against the government of Trinidad and Tobago in 1990.
