Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce makes surprise million dollar donation to Primary School
The George Headley Primary school now has an additional million dollars to put in its ‘piggy bank’ courtesy of Jamaica’s ‘Pocket-Rocket’ – Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
According to a report by Loop Jamaica, earlier today she urged students at the George Headley Primary School, her alma mater, to practise road safety habits, while on a visit to the school with the National Road Safety Council (NRSC) this morning.
According to Fraser-Pryce, who is a NRSC Road Safety Ambassador, road safety is of national importance, and should be widely emphasized, especially amongst students who use dangerous roads while travelling to and from school.
“Road safety should be of importance to us all. It is crucial that we continuously remind and encourage our students to engage in road safety practices,” Fraser-Pryce said.
She then made the surprise announcement and handed Aretha Willie, principal of George Headley Primary School, a cheque for $1-million for the institution.
She noted that George Headley Primary School helped to mould her into the sprinter she is today; thus, it was only fitting that her first school visit with the NRSC be at the school.
Also, the time had come for her to give back to her school.
“This surprise donation should have been made a while ago. However, what better time to make my surprise donation than now while I am touring with the National Road Safety Council,” she said.
